Sociology Department
The Sociology Department at the ECUPL was established in May, 2003 and become one of independent teaching organs directly under the leadership of the university in may, 2004. Currently, Sociology Department has 14 full-time teachers and faculty members and over 20 part-time teachers and experts. There are two specialties, three teaching groups and one Research Institute in Sociology Department as follows: sociology and social work specialties and each specialty enrolls undergraduates at least one class, and the enrolled students reaches totally around 100 every year. The teaching staffs belong to three teaching groups such as the teaching group of sociology
theory, the teaching group of method of social research and survey, and the teaching group of social work. Sociology Department enjoys some quite distinguished scholars in the areas of law and sociology, most of teaching members have obtained Ph.D. or Master degree from famous universities in and outside country. Some of them have wide academic experiences and

connections with North American universities, European universities and famous Asia universities. Up to now, the faculty members have established widely and tightly academic relations with colleagues in and outside country.


Sociology Department focuses its courses and training on the areas of sociology of law, sociology of crime and judicial social work. Since 2003, Sociology Department has already established seven bases in Shanghai for undergraduates¡¯ internship and practice, and each year students enjoy and learn a lot from the experience of the internship and practice. Besides Shanghai, Sociology Department has established over 10 bases for undergraduates¡¯ practice and internship in the east part of China.

 

The Institute of Sociology of law was established in 2003 year. It is one important part of Sociology Department and also directly under the leadership of the University. It is the bridge to link the law science with sociology at the ECUPL, and also it is the important research base for sociology of law. Currently, the Institute researchers have already published books as follows: <Sociology>(Sept, 2005, Press of China University of Politics and Law); <Introduction to law Science> (Fudan University Press, April, 2003); <Introduction to the law of social work in community>(Fudan University Press, July, 2005 ); <Science of public relations> and <Sociology of organization>, also the Institute researchers have finished 5 research projects and published over 30 articles in the areas of law and sociology since its foundation in 2003 year.


Li, Jianyong, Associate Prof. of Law, who was a visiting scholar at the Law school, Yale University, USA, Kyushu University in Japan, Masselle University in France and National University of Singapore, and served as a Research Associate at U.B.C., Canada, is the current Dean of Sociology Department and the concurrent Director of the Institute of Sociology of Law. He is also

the Standing committee member of both China and Shanghai Sociology. Association.
