Ten years ago, in the summer of 1995, East China
University of Politics And Law decided to add to its
academic catalogue a 4-year degree program which would
feature a curriculum combining study of law with acquisition
of a foreign language. It was a brilliant idea, and
it was where we got started.
|
| For ten
years, we've been working pretty hard to make sure that
our students learn what they need to learn and our graduates
are competitive in the job market. Today, thanks to the
collective contribution of my staff and our students,
I think we've got every reason to make a not so humble
claim: we have lived up to the expectations of the designers
of the program. |

Note some of our statistics:
An average employment rate of 96%
(upon graduation) for quite a few years in a row, a
record paralleled by few on college campuses across
the country;
|
| Asteady
20% graduate school admission rate, which includes admissions
to such high caliber universities like Fudan University,
Nanjing University and Foreign Trade University.
An average 35% of students involved
in volunteer projects, which demonstrates our students¡¯
commitment to the well-being of our society.

The figures listed here may not mean that much,
they do, however, reflect years of hard work on the
part of both our teachers and students. Burning midnight
oil would be too mild an expression to describe what
they have done to make this program a highly challenging
and rewarding one. As dean of School of Foreign Languages,
I would like to see this program perceived as a solid
foundation, on which youngsters like you may build asuccessful
career, and I would also like to see more high school
students make up their minds and give this wonderful
program a try. Who knows? It may turn out to be one
of the most strategic decisions in your lifetime!
